When I think back to Lucy & Zack's wedding day, I feel a mixture of overwhelming joy and a comforting peacefulness. They were surrounded by so many close family members and friends – people they have known for most of their lives. The day was obviously not just about them as a couple, but about their relationship to each and every person who joined in celebration with them that day.
A few things that come to mind:
• Lucy and her girls got ready at her family home, the one she grew up in – the one where she still has a room to call her own. I could have taken more than a day to photograph every nook and cranny of that place. So much history and so many items that make a house a home. I loved watching Lucy get ready in parents room, thinking back to all the years she spent there. I very much loved watching Lucy walk down the stairs to see her father for the first time, thinking about all the times she ran down those stairs – just to go off to school, or on Christmas morning…you get the idea.
• Lucy & Zack traveled in style, by way of a 1942 wooden station wagon, owned by one of Lucy's relatives.
• The church they were married in is the same church Lucy's grandparents were married in, as well as where her parents are longtime members.
• Both Lucy & Zack had friends, whom they've known since elementary school, give speeches.
• And lastly, the moment I will remember the most from their wedding. For the final song, their guests gathered around them in a circle. L&Z danced a little and then turned around to look at each and every guest who joined them that day, and thanked them. It was such a lovely way to end the day.
Thank you to Karen & Ben for introducing us (at their wedding last summer). Thank you to Lucy, Zack and their families for having us there to not only photograph, but to be a part of the celebration.
