Heather & Daniel | Rhode Island Backyard Wedding

This was quite a wedding for many reasons. This was also the last one for us in 2014, and perfect one to go out on.

Daniel and Heather decided not to see each other before the ceremony. Daniel got ready at his family's home, where the wedding took place. The property has actually been in the family for a few generations – a fact you all know I loved. Heather got ready at a hotel in Newport. While her girls got dressed Heather seemed to float around the suite. Looking back we all should have seen what was to happen later. After getting her dress on and taking a few portraits we made our way downstairs to take photos of her and the girls. I quickly went outside to find the spot and when I came back in Heather was crying slightly. We carried on though and went outside. That's when it all hit her so completely and overwhelmingly. It was her wedding day – a lot of attention on her, which is difficult for a lot of brides to take – she hadn't seen Daniel that day – it was all a little too much. She went from crying - to laughing - to calm (eating a carrot or two in between) - and then crying again. It was a roller coaster, and one you can be sure I photographed the whole time. I mean – that's the stuff I LOVE! That's the real stuff. Heather kindly agreed to let me show some of the photos here, and I'm so glad she did.

A fun thing to note, perhaps to give other couples an idea…Daniel collected whiskies over the year they were planning their wedding to have a special whiskey bar during the reception. It was quite impressive, and it looked beautiful with the candle light. The bar was a great place to photograph people because of the light and also because people tended to gather there when not dancing.

This being our last wedding of 2014 Peter and I celebrated with a half hour left and partook in a taste each. I had the Pinhook, and enjoyed every drop. We photographed the complete list and have hopes of making our way through most of it over time.

Heather & Daniel work so well together. I love how much she loves him, and the way Daniel obviously adores her. Their day was all around wonderful.

Brenna & Nick | Overbrook House Wedding

It's been a bit dreary around the Boston area the last few days, though to be honest, rain doesn't bother me. When the rain is coming down I feel a real sense of warmth and coziness. This September Brenna & Nick were married at Overbrook House on Cape Cod. The day began warm and overcast, but once everyone was under the tent for the reception the rain began to come down…but who cared really, because they were all cozy together underneath the tent. The rain stopped around the time everyone had to move to the dance hall (for dancing, of course)! On our walk over the sky lit up with this amazing peach-pink light. It lasted for maybe 10 minutes at the most. I love photography for many reasons, but moments of light like that are some of my very favorite reasons. That light existed and then was gone, but we were able to create some portraits during that time and keep it forever. It continued to rain off and on throughout the night, but it didn't seem to bother anyone at all.

I spoke to Brenna over the phone almost a year before their wedding. Within the first few minutes of chatting with her I knew I wanted to photograph her and NIck's wedding. It was happening on the Cape (which I love), at an old house they were renting (i'm a huge fan of old homes), and the later part of the evening would be happening in a dance hall on the property (a dance hall!). Not just that, but speaking to Brenna that day I felt like I was speaking to a kindred spirit, and could only imagine that Nick would be wonderful as well.

These two are from Texas, but Brenna would visit family on the Cape during the summers growing up. She knew she wanted to have her wedding up this way and show all of their Texas folk what a special place the Cape can be.
