Good Morning - on this lovely Monday morning! My achy body didn't want me to get out of bed this morning. Yesterday I ran the Super Sunday 5. A couple of years ago I ran this with Graham and it was a 5k - with a 10K option if you wanted to run the course twice. The run took place down by the water and the already below freezing temperatures plummeted to negative degrees with the wind chill. I couldn't believe my brother talked me into doing that run with him. When it was over I felt ill, but accomplished.
Over the last couple of years I've become more of a runner, but I haven't been running recently at all really. I did a 5k in Harvard Square in December with Graham and ran the entire time - something I hadn't done before. I'd always come close, but would break down and walk for a minute or two. So, it felt great knowing I kept going the whole time.
When I signed up for the Super Sunday 5 - I figured I would take the 5k bailout (a bus back to the start where free food and beer were waiting), but when I got to that point and saw the bus I decided I could do it! I continued to run the next 2 miles - and yesterday, for the first time ever, I ran 5 miles without stopping. This may seem easy to some, but for those of you who find 1 mile difficult - I can tell you that I've been there and it's quite wonderful what your body and brain can do when you decide to push them...just a little bit at a time. I feel even more accomplished this time and I look forward to seeing where this running thing will go. My best friend Jen and I are already talking about a half marathon next February in SC.
Anyway...this post was going to be about how I recently bought an iPod alarm clock. I used to wake up to my phone alarm, which lent itself to me immediately checking my email and social media...a horrible way to wake up! Instead, I wanted to focus on me and truly 'waking' up to the day. The solution was an iPod alarm clock. I get to wake up to great music and move along with my morning without distractions.
The last few mornings I've been waking up to the Acid House Kings. They're from Sweden and they make me feel so light and happy - something needed in the mornings, I think.
