In 1925 Citi Performing Arts Center's Wang Theatre first opened its doors as The Metropolitan Theatre. This past Friday we found ourselves at a soirée filled with flappers and dapper gentlemen - very similar to the parties that happened there way back when.
Just this year a group named after the original theatre - the Metropolitans – was formed. In addition to getting together for parties in the Theater District, the group plans volunteer activities that help performing-arts programs in the city of Boston.
To kick-off the fall season the group threw a speakeasy party in the bottom floor lobby where, early in the last century, parties happened after vaudeville shows on a regular basis. There was the jazz band Oliver Monaco performing in the lounge where custom cocktails were being mixed by Andrew of Flask & Funnel. In the lobby, DJ Deja got the crowd dancing, while servers circled with delicious hors d'oeuvres by MAX Ultimate Food. All the details were planned by Lauren of Lauren Wells Events. The signage for the evening was hand lettered by Liz of Lettering By Liz, and the gorgeous flower arrangements were designed by Krissy of Pollen Floral Design. Marc of Marc Dickinson Photography was there to document the evening's festivities as well.
I loved walking around grabbing a few shots of the event and the details while mingling with the crowd. The best part of the evening for Peter & I was working the Paper Moon Photo Booth. We had so much fun getting dressed up and enjoying those delicious cocktails. It was a pleasure to be a part of this event.
